Football Notes: 18,000 FAI Programs Reprinted To Exclude 'Offending' FIFA Commentary

Comments about FIFA corruption written by FA of Ireland CEO John Delaney were "erased from the FAI's official programme for Saturday's game against Scotland" -- at a cost of €10,000 (£11,220). The FAI "ordered an eleventh-hour shredding of around 18,000 programmes which featured the controversial football chief's observations." The FAI then ordered another 18,000 of the €5 ($5.61) programs for the 5pm Euro 2016 qualifier to be printed at an estimated cost of €10,000 -- minus the two "offending paragraphs" (London DAILY MAIL, 6/13). ... After Brasileiro side Vasco's loss on Saturday, nearly 100 fans protested the match. A small bomb was "thrown toward the athletes, who were being interviewed." No one was injured; however, since the person responsible "could not be identified," Vasco "could be punished" for the bomb instead (LANCEPRESS, 6/14). ... The sports practice of accountancy and advisory firm KPMG has launched a web portal analyzing the business performance of professional clubs at www.footballbenchmark.com. The site analyzes financial, operational and sporting performance with the data available to registered users. It is "further supported by insight and interpretation of the football sector" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 6/12). ... Croatia President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic called for a "swift investigation and punishment for the people who imprinted a swastika cross on the pitch" at the stadium where Croatia played Italy in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday. She said in a statement, "This act has inflicted immeasurable damage on the reputation of Croatian citizens and their homeland all over the world" (REUTERS, 6/13).
