More Than 6.7 Million Watch In Spain As Barcelona Captures Champions League

Barcelona's 3-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League final on Saturday drew more than 6.7 million viewers on Spanish broadcaster TVE's La 1, according to the EP. The number translated to a market share of 47.7%. It was "the most-viewed program on Saturday and the highest-rated Champions League game of the season." More than 15 million viewers -- 33.8% of Spain's population -- "tuned in at some point during the broadcast." The audience peaked at 10:39pm local time, with 8.2 million viewers. Postgame programming also drew 7 million viewers, a market share of 43.4% (EP, 6/7). MARCA reported the Champions League final drew interest from more than 28 million Facebok users, who generated more than 76 million interactions during the game. The "most-commented moment" was Neymar's goal. Globally, Neymar was the most mentioned player on the social network during the game. In both Italy and Spain, however, the most mentioned player was Lionel Messi. In Spain, 1.2 million Facebook users recorded 3.1 million interactions during the game. In Italy, 2.4 million users "commented on the action" (MARCA, 6/7).

IN GERMANY
: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Nunez Sanchez reported German public broadcaster ZDF drew an average of 9.72 million viewers for its broadcast of the Champions League final. The number translated into a market share of 36.6%. In the target demographic 14-49, the game obtained a market share of 34% as 2.98 million viewers tuned in. The opening match of the women's World Cup between Canada and China attracted 1.09 million viewers on ZDF. The match, which started at midnight, had a 13.3% market share (QUOTENMETER, 6/7). In a separate piece, Sanchez reported German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland recorded an average of 400,000 viewers for its coverage of the Champions League final. The number represented a 1.5% share. In the target demo, Sky obtained a 2.6% share as an average of 230,000 viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 6/7).
