French broadcaster Canal+ has appointed THIERRY THUILLIER as its new head of the sports department. Thuillier, who currently works as the program director of France 2, "will assume his new role on June 15." Thuillier is replacing CYRIL LINETTE "who left Canal+ to join L'Equipe" (L'Equipe). ... PETER GILLIÉRON has been re-elected as president of the Swiss FA (SFV-ASF) for a further two years. Gilliéron, who stood unopposed at the weekend's delegates' meeting, will now take up his fourth term in office. A member of the UEFA exec committee since '11, Gilliéron is currently also chairman of the UEFA Fair Play & Social Responsibility Committee and deputy chairman of the UEFA Club Licensing Committee (UEFA). ... Manor Marussia "announced several new technical appointments," including the arrival of former Renault and Mercedes Technical Dir BOB BELL. Bell "left the world champions at the end of last season." He "had been linked with a move to Ferrari in recent months." Bell "will act as a technical consultant for the balance of the current season." Furthermore, LUCA FURBATTO, who previously held the position of chief designer at Toro Rosso, "has been appointed head of design," while GIANLUCA PISANELLO has "been made the team’s chief engineer." Most recently, Pisanello "was head of engineering operations at Caterham" (SKY SPORTS, 6/1). ... Russian Football Union (RFS) President NIKOLAI TOLSTYKH "was sacked on Sunday following a vote on his position by RFS officials." Delegates at a conference in Moscow "voted 235 in favor, 196 against him departing a position" he has held since '12. Voting for a new president "is due to take place within the next three months," with VP NIKITA SIMONYAN taking temporary charge (MOSCOW TIMES, 6/1). ... Former Indian Olympic Association Secretary General LALIT BHANOT was elected VP of the Asian Athletics Association for a "four-year term in polls held in Wuhan, China." Bhanot "got 32 of the 44 votes in the elections," where the incumbent DAHLAN AL-HAMAD of Qatar was "elected unopposed as president for another term" (PTI, 6/1).


COACHES/MANAGERS: Super League club Wakefield has appointed Australian BRIAN SMITH as its new coach. Smith, 61, will be "working for a fourth time in England," having previously been in charge at Hull City from '88-90 and Bradford Bulls in '96, as well as working at a national side level. He replaces JAMES WEBSTER, who left the club earlier this month (BBC, 5/31). ... Brasileiro side São Paulo, Manager JUAN CARLOS OSÓRIO and President CARLOS MIGUEL AIDAR announced JOSÉ EDUARDO CHIMELLO as the club's new football manager. Chimello "returns to the club after nearly thirty years" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 6/1). ... ROBERTO CARLOS is no longer coach of Turkish side Akhisar Belediyespor, which he has "coached since the beginning of the year" (BAHIA NOTÍCIAS, 5/31). ... Liga MX side Cruz Azul named SERGIO BUENO its new coach. Bueno replaces LUIS FERNANDO TENA, "concluding a three-week search." Bueno coached Liga MX side Chiapas the past two seasons (LA AFICIÓN, 5/31). ... League Championship side Derby County has appointed former Real Madrid assistant PAUL CLEMENT as its new head coach on a three-year deal. He replaces STEVE MCCLAREN, who was "sacked last month." It is the first managerial role for Clement, 41 (BBC, 6/1). ... League Championship side Brentford has named Excelsior Manager MARINUS DIJKHUIZEN as its new head coach. The 43-year-old Dutchman replaces MARK WARBURTON. Dijkhuizen will be assisted by ROY HENDRIKSEN, who "joins the club" from Dutch side NEC (BBC, 6/1).
