Austrian Football Club Austria Wien Unveils $53M Stadium Project To Be Completed By '18

Austrian football club Austria Wien has unveiled the design of its new stadium, which is to be developed under a project worth €48M ($52.5M), according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. Under the plan, the Vienna-based side will launch the build in May. Der Standard reported the construction is "expected to be completed" by summer '18. The club's Generali Arena will be expanded to a total capacity of 17,500. This would represent a "significant improvement on the current capacity of its Franz Horr Stadion, which is about 14,000." Targeting a boost in matchday revenues, Austria Wien plans to "significantly expand the number of VIP lounges to a total of 38, according to data released by the club." During the construction, the club will host its home matches at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 6/1).
