All-Star Match Raises $1.5M For Liverpool FC Foundation, Charities

The Anfield match that saw Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher lead sides "stacked with legends of the past and present" raised £1M ($1.5M), which will be "distributed to local charities," according to Michael Gadd for the London DAILY MAIL. Team captains Gerrard and Carragher presented a check to the Liverpool FC Foundation, which will "use the funds to continue their existing programmes and donate to charities." The match saw an "incredible array of names," with former Liverpool strikers Luis Suárez and Fernando Torres, former keeper Pepe Reina, Chelsea captain John Terry and former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry on the line up. Charities that will benefit from the proceeds include Centre 56, Cash for Kids, Positive Futures, Clare House Children's Hospice and Alder Hey Children's Charity. A crowd of more than 45,000 "attended Anfield for the match," which ended in a 2-2 draw (DAILY MAIL, 5/26).
