DAVE KING "has been appointed as the new chairman" of Scottish Championship side Rangers. King said in a statement, "It has taken much longer than any of us had anticipated to bring about board changes but we have achieved that and I am deeply honoured to become the club's chairman." King's appointment "comes three years after the Ibrox side were placed into administration and liquidation before being forced to re-enter in the lowest professional league in Scottish football" (REUTERS, 5/22). ... The Int'l Council of Arbitration for Sport elected JOHN COATES as president for the period '15-18. Coates has been a member of ICAS since the creation of the Council in '94. Coates is a lawyer from Sydney. He is President of the Australian Olympic Committee and VP of the IOC. At the same meeting, the ICAS also elected its two VPs: MICHAEL LENARD and TJASA ANDRÉE-PROSENC (ICAS).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Mexican Baseball League (LMB) club Quintana Roo announced the dismissal of Manager JERRY ROYSTER. The club named GERARDO SÁNCHEZ its interim manager (NOTIMEX, 5/24). ... TREVOR BAYLISS "is understood to have accepted an offer" to become the new England cricket coach, "pipping fellow Australian" JASON GILLESPIE to the post. Bayliss "has responded positively to an offer" from the England & Wales Cricket Board and is expected to be named successor to PETER MOORES after the First Test against New Zealand (London TELEGRAPH, 5/25). ... GAIZKA GARITANO stood down as coach of Eibar "after the La Liga debutants were relegated on the final day of the campaign on Saturday" (REUTERS, 5/23). ... Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart appointed ALEXANDER ZORNIGER as its new coach to replace HUUB STEVENS. Zorniger worked briefly as an assistant at Stuttgart in '09 "for his only Bundesliga experience." He "was in charge of second-division RB Leipzig from 2012 until his dismissal in February." Zorniger "signed a three-year contract" (AP, 5/25). ... NIGEL CLOUGH "has been sacked" as the manager of League One side Sheffield United. A club statement said, "A change in direction was necessary for the forthcoming season." Clough's backroom staff of GARY CROSBY, ANDY GARNER, MARTIN TAYLOR, SIMON CLOUGH, MICHAEL FORSYTH and MATT BROWN "will also leave the club, which faces a fifth successive year in the third tier" (BBC, 5/25).

REAL SACKS ANCELOTTI: Real Madrid President FLORENTINO PÉREZ announced on Monday that Manager CARLO ANCELOTTI “has been fired.” After winning the Champions League in his first season in charge, Ancelotti “failed to claim any major trophies” in ‘14-15, leading the club to “announce his departure two days after the end of their campaign.” Pérez said, “My talk will be very short, but I want to say that today the board has decided to relieve Carlo Ancelotti of duties as Real Madrid coach. It has been a very difficult decision to make for the board.” Perez also said that Real Madrid would announce Ancelotti's replacement "next week." He added that he “would not reveal exactly why he felt Ancelotti was no longer the right man for the job,” but said that he and the board had felt the "responsibility" to make a change (ESPN, 5/25).

JAMES LEAVES BT
: BT Consumer Marketing Dir DAVID JAMES "left his role," with Customer Acquisition Dir DAN RAMSAY taking over for the interim. James "has not left BT yet, but has taken a different position within the company's HR department to see out his notice period." He "will leave for a competitor in August, likely a mobile company." It is understood that Ramsay "has taken on the role of acting marketing director alongside his usual advertising role." Sources suggest that "Ramsay will take on James' duties permanently after the transition period" (MARKETING MAGAZINE, 5/22).
