NFL Owners Discuss Playing Regular-Season Games In Mexico, Germany

A future regular-season game in Mexico or Germany "was discussed by NFL owners" during yesterday's spring meeting, according to Barry Wilner of the AP. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that both countries "reached out about hosting games." He added there is "renewed interest" among the owners. Wilner noted the Cardinals and 49ers played in Mexico City in '05 and there "have been five preseason games played in Germany," but none since '94. Monterrey "hosted an NFL preseason game" in '96. Mexico City Secretary of Economic Development Salomon Chertorivski Woldenberg met with 49ers co-Chair John York in November "regarding the possibility of a game," which was the "first public admission the NFL might return to Mexico." Meanwhile, Goodell said that Rio de Janeiro also "has shown interest in staging a Pro Bowl" (AP, 5/20).
