Media Notes: Spanish Public Broadcaster TVE To Carry Madrid Open From '16-19

Spanish public broadcaster TVE has secured the rights for the Madrid Open -- both the men's and women's editions -- in a deal running from '16-19. TVE said in a statement, "Teledeporte will offer at least four men's games every day and three women's. Also, La 1 will highlight the best of each matchday in a daily half-hour program." The agreement states that the men's semifinals and final will be carried on La 1 if Spanish men's players "are still competing," while the women's final will also be on La 1 if a Spanish player qualifies (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 5/10). ... Uruguayan private free-TV broadcasters Teledoce, Saeta and Monte Carlo have acquired the rights to carry Uruguay's games during the Copa América beginning June 11. The agreement was reached between the broadcasters and rights holder Full Play, which acquired the rights to the tournament from CONMEBOL (EL OBSERVADOR, 5/8). ... Polish operators Grupa Onet and Ringier Axel Springer Poland "retained the digital rights" to the country’s top flight football league, the Ekstraklasa. The two companies "acquired the online, mobile and smart TV rights to clips and highlights from Ekstraklasa matches for the next four seasons." MP & Silva "facilitated the agreements" (SOCCEREX, 5/12). ... Baku 2015 European Games announced a new TV deal "for coverage of the inaugural event outside Europe, this time with the Cuban television station Instituto Cubano de Radio y Television." The station, Cuba’s free-to-air broadcaster, reaches 3.8 million households in the country and "is also Cuba’s official broadcaster of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year" (AZER NEWS, 5/12). ... Int'l University Sports Federation (FISU) and Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union officially signed a TV rights contract for the '15-17 FISU events. The contract covers all Asian territories and the Pacific. The ABU broadcasting partners cover more than 3.5 billion viewers (FISU). ... Eurosport secured the TV and digital rights to athletics’ Diamond League in the U.K. and Germany. Under the terms of the five-year deal, British Eurosport will show the whole series live and exclusive, excluding the two British events. In Germany, all meetings will be live and exclusive on Eurosport 2 (Eurosport).
