Italian Sports Broadcaster Sky Italia Bags Rights To Serie B

Italian sports broadcaster Sky Italia has secured a package of live broadcast rights for the Serie B, the second tier of professional Italian club soccer, until 2018.

Pay satellite broadcaster Sky Italia, a division of the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sky plc, beat off competition from rival Italian media company Mediaset to win the auction for the live rights to the league.

An official Serie B statement said: ‘The National Professional League Serie B can announce that at the end of tenders relating to the package of exclusive rights for the 2015/18 soccer seasons scheduled for today at 12, bids were received by broadcasters Mediaset Premium and Sky Italy. The best deal was that of Sky Italy.’

The deal was announced on Twitter by the Serie B president, Andrea Abodi, who tweeted: ‘Serie B 2015 - 2018: the best offer from Sky Italy! From 1st July a fascinating new adventure.’
