São Paulo Stadiums Nearing Approval To Sell Beer After 19-Year Prohibition

São Paulo's municipal government should take a vote in the next few days on whether "beer will return to football stadiums," according to the GAZETA PRESS. If approved, the law will "knock down a 19-year veto." But beer sales "would only happen on specific times: before kickoff, during halftime and after the game -- that way it remains prohibited while the ball is rolling." Beer would also only be permitted "in specific locations within the stadium, as it is unauthorized in the bleachers." The project for law modifications claims that beer's stadium prohibition "is unable to lessen violence within the stadium," meaning the current law does not reach "its objective" (GAZETA PRESS, 5/6).
