Basketball Bundesliga Club Artland Dragons Disbands Operations Due To Financial Issues

Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) side Artland Dragons "has disbanded its basketball team with immediate effect," according to the SID. As a result, the club "is losing its spot in the German top flight." The club, which announced the news on Sunday, said that "its location and the resulting financial disadvantages are the reasons for the decision." BBL spokesperson Dirk Kaiser: "The news comes as a surprise. [Artland] was an established location, conducting exemplary work. It seems the surrounding factors have not worked anymore." The Dragons were promoted to the top flight in '03. The club's biggest success was winning the German Cup in '08. It finished second in the league in '06-07. In a statement, the club thanked its fans and sponsors for their trust in the team (SID, 3/5).
