More Than 7 Million Viewers Tune In To Watch German Cup Semifinal Match On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD "recorded more than 7 million viewers for its broadcast of the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) semifinal matchup between Wolfsburg and Bielefeld," according to Uwe Mantel of DWDL. An average of 7.02 million viewers watched the game starting at 8:30pm. The number translated into a market share of 23.9%. In the target demographic 14-49, Wolfsburg's 4-0 victory obtained an 18.9% share as 4.38 million viewers tuned in. Despite the above average ratings, Wednesday's Cup coverage "drew the third lowest viewership of the season." The game also "attracted 5.9 million fewer viewers than Tuesday's semifinal" between Munich and Dortmund (DWDL, 4/30).

HANDBALL GAME: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Weis reported prior to the Cup coverage, ARD showed the German handball national team's game against Spain. The European Championship qualifier obtained a 6% market share as 1.12 million viewers tuned in. In the target demo, the game, which started at 6pm, had a 2.8% share (QUOTENMETER, 4/30).
