La Liga Clubs Fill Stadiums To Just 71% Of Capacity, Trail EPL, Bundesliga

La Liga teams have recorded average crowds of around 26,000 "during the last few seasons," according to Juan L. Cudeiro of EL PAÍS. One contributing factor "is the absence of clubs with large fanbases like Zarazoga, Sporting and Betis," which have stadiums with much larger capacities than Eibar's, for example. But "the percentages show that something is not working." According to Spanish Football League (LFP) figures, all La Liga stadiums in the '09-10 season had average crowds of more than 50% capacity. The comparison "is also damaging when comparing Spanish football to other leagues." Average attendance for La Liga games this year is 71% of capacity. The Bundesliga's average attendance is 92%, with only two clubs -- Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin -- below 86%. Average attendance for EPL games this year is 95% of capacity. Every EPL team except Aston Villa fills its stadium more than La Liga's third-best club in terms of capacity: Córdoba, at 85.9% (EL PAÍS, 4/27).
