Thai Businessman Bee Taechaubol Travels To Italy For AC Milan Takeover Talks

Thai businessman Bee Taechaubol "will travel to Italy this weekend for talks to buy a stake in Serie A side AC Milan," according to Manunphattr Dhanananphorn of REUTERS. Bee said in February he had held talks about "buying a stake in the club after media reports that he had made an offer" of $1.07B for a controlling stake. The source said, "I can't say whether he will sign a deal. It is likely that Bee will give comments in early May." Former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi has owned AC Milan since the '80s. But his continued ownership has been at the center of speculation "as the club has struggled to compete financially with the top teams from other major European leagues" (REUTERS, 4/23). FOOTBALL ITALIA reported Berlusconi's daughter Marina, chair of Fininvest, said that talks are in a "delicate phase" for the sale of the club. She said in a statement, "This is a very delicate phase for Milan. We must maintain silence. Things have been written which are both true and untrue" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/23).
