Brazilian 7-A-Side Football Team Receives $2 Million Training Facility

With a cost of R$6.5M ($2.2M), the Brazilian 7-a-side football team received a new training center in preparation for the 2016 Paralympics, according to Flávio Dilascio of GLOBO ESPORTE. The facility belongs to Brazilian health insurance company Unimed and is rented by the National Association of Sports For the Disabled (ANDE). The training center has a "football field that is 65m by 45m, a multisport gym, lodging, dining hall, pool, fitness center and physical therapy." ANDE President Federico Frazão said, "It was really important for us to bring the football 7-a-side team to this training center, which is in Rio [de Janeiro], right near the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. ... We closed rental contracts and we will use this location to prepare for the competitions ahead, like the World [Championships] in London in June, the Parapan in Toronto in August and the Paralympics of next year" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 4/22).
