Scottish Championship Side Rangers Fined Over Breach Of Dual Ownership Rules

Scottish Championship side Rangers has been fined by Scottish football's governing body "for breaching so-called dual ownership rules" relating to Newcastle Owner Mike Ashley, according to Jody Harrison of the Glasgow EVENING TIMES. The club has been ordered to pay £5,500 ($8,230), following a similar £7,500 ($11,200) fine for Ashley last month for the same offense. A disciplinary tribunal deemed that Ashley, who has a 9% stake in Rangers, "had influence in the Ibrox boardroom." The bulk of Rangers' fine "was imposed for failing to act towards the SFA with the utmost good faith." The club was also fined £500 ($750) as Ashley "was deemed to have influenced the management or administration through the appointment of business associates Derek Llambias and Barry Leach to the club's board" (EVENING TIMES, 4/17).
