Brasileiro Side São Paulo President Promises To Modernize Morumbi Stadium

Brasileiro side São Paulo President Carlos Miguel Aidar "promised" on Monday a "new project to modernize" the Morumbi stadium, according to Ciro Campos of ESTADÃO. Aidar "wants to transform the location into a modern arena" with changes to the bleachers and "a transformation of the ground floor into a commercial center." The project "should keep the stadium closed for up to two years for the construction." Aidar: "We're already advanced and ahead of schedule. ... We want to bring the bleachers closer to the field. We're closing the whole deal. ... The fans have dreams of transforming the Morumbi into an arena." However, the project "will decrease" the stadium's capacity, which is currently at about 66,000 people. Aidar's proposal should include the construction of an area behind one of the goals as a "type of mini-arena." It will hold 25,000 people and can "host shows and sporting events" (ESTADÃO, 4/13).
