Event Notes: Premiership Club Leicester Tigers To Meet Rough Riders In Philadelphia

Premiership rugby side Leicester Tigers will this year take on "combined American side Rough Riders" in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field, home to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. Billed as the Independence Cup, the game is the "first elite rugby match played in the U.S. by a professional American team" and will mark the formation of the National Rugby Football League. The NRFL, the first professional rugby championship in the U.S., will commence in '16 with six to 12 sides spread across the continent (REUTERS, 4/14). ... The NBA and Zignia Live announced that the Boston Celtics and Sacramento Kings will travel to Mexico for the first time to play the league's third regular-season game in the country at the Mexico City Arena on Dec. 3 as part of NBA Global Games 2015. The contest marks the league's 22nd game in Mexico overall, the most NBA matchups held in any country outside the U.S. and Canada (NBA). ... Although Dakar Rally organizer ASO "is scheduled to announce the official route of the 2016 race on Thursday," Bolivia President Evo Morales said on Monday that it will return to Bolivia for the third time next year, in all categories (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 4/13). ... Sailing's int'l governing body has rejected a former official's complaints of "gross misconduct filed against the America's Cup jury that handed down the harshest penalty in the history of sailing's marquee regatta." In a statement posted on its website on Monday, the Int'l Sailing Federation said that it reviewed the complaints by Paul Henderson of Toronto and "considers there is no case to answer" (AP, 4/14).
