Event Notes: Argentina To Host Davis Cup Round Vs. Serbia On Indoor Clay Court

The Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) has "decided to face Serbia in an indoor clay court." Argentine team captain Daniel Orsanic explained a "heavy" court would "serve best to the South American side's chances of beating the Balkans." The Davis Cup quarterfinal round will be played from July 17-19 at Tecnópolis, where a special court will be prepared (BUENOS AIRES HERALD, 4/7). ... ManU Manager Louis van Gaal persuaded "the Old Trafford hierarchy to agree to a short and sharp pre-season tour" of the U.S. in July. Van Gaal and ManU have "turned down offers from Asia and Australia" and are reportedly about to "sign off a visit to America -- in all likelihood to the west coast." The trip will last in the region of 12 days -- "a whole week shorter than last summer" -- and will be over by Aug. 1 (London DAILY MAIL, 4/8). ... Super Rugby side NSW Waratahs CEO Greg Harris believes a clash between Australia and New Zealand in rugby "would be the perfect way to not only celebrate our shared history, but stand out on an increasingly congested ANZAC-related sporting calendar." Harris: "To acknowledge the relationship between the two countries through the Bledisloe would be an absolutely fantastic event." Harris' comments came as the Waratahs "launched ticket sales for their ANZAC Day clash this year" (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 4/8). ... The NBA Boston Celtics will be playing a third int'l game "outside the NBA footprint next season." The Celtics will reportedly meet the Sacramento Kings in a regular season game in Mexico City "in November or December" (BOSTON HERALD, 4/6). ... Euroleague Basketball will become the first competition in major professional sports to test players wearing micro-cameras on their uniforms in an official game. In the team's visit on Friday to play Real Madrid, two Zalgiris Kaunas players -- center Robertas Javtokas and guard Edgaras Ulanovas -- will wear jersey cams that will transmit live images to the game broadcast (Euroleague).
