Cambridge, New Zealand's Avantidrome To Host UCI Track Cycling World Cup

The Avantidrome in Cambridge, the home to Cycling NZ, has been awarded an Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling World Cup to be hosted in December, according to Ben Strang of the WAIKATO TIMES. The Avantidrome will be "hosting the second of three UCI Track Cycling World Cups" for the '15-16 season. Cycling New Zealand will host the three-day event from Dec. 4-6. Riders will "then turn their focus to the UCI Track Cycling World Championships," which will be held in London in March '16. It could not be "better timing for New Zealand to host its first world cup, with the event given added importance with vital qualifying points up for grabs for the 2016 Rio Olympics." Cycling New Zealand CEO Andrew Matheson said, "We've been working for this for quite a while" (WAIKATO TIMES, 4/2).
