Former Spanish Basketball League (ACB) player LALO GARCÍA's body was found on Tuesday in the Pisuerga River. García was last seen on March 4. He played for ACB club Fórum Filatélico. The ACB has "declared a day of mourning" (MARCA, 3/31). ... A new coffee table book containing images taken by all the F1 drivers and team bosses over the course of last season has gone on sale, with proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. "Zoom: Personal Images and Insights from the Stars of F1" is the third official book of the Zoom charity auction and features all of the unique behind-the-scenes photos that were auctioned in an event in January (Formula 1). ... The last of three sexual abuse lawsuits leveled against former Olympics CEO JOHN FURLONG "was dismissed Monday, nearly two years after his reputation was called into question and he was forced to retreat from the public spotlight." The ruling by a British Columbia Supreme Court judge was "ultimately decided when the plaintiff failed to appear for trial," a conclusion Furlong's lawyer "described as less than ideal." Judge ELLIOTT MYERS also "awarded unspecified special costs to Furlong, calling the plaintiff's behaviour 'egregious, reprehensible and worthy of rebuke'" (CANADIAN PRESS, 3/30). ... JACQUI OATLEY is to "join ITV as a sports presenter from the beginning of the next football season." The first female commentator on Match of the Day will "anchor football shows on ITV4 as well as some coverage of matches on the main ITV channel." Oatley, currently a freelancer, will also "present the channel's darts coverage" and has previously presented football programs on ITV, including FA Cup and Africa Cup of Nations action (London GUARDIAN, 3/31). ... South Korean footballer CHA DU-RI "bid a teary farewell" to int'l football on Tuesday, wrapping up a 14-year career that included appearances at two FIFA World Cups. Cha, 34, "played in his 76th and final match" for South Korea against New Zealand at Seoul World Cup stadium (YONHAP, 3/31). ... New Zealand cricketer DANIEL VETTORI confirmed what "many expected in announcing his retirement from international cricket upon the team's return from the World Cup." The 36-year-old former captain had been "widely expected to retire from international cricket at the conclusion of New Zealand's involvement in the tournament" (REUTERS, 3/31). ... England goalkeeper KAREN BARDSLEY has been charged with "violent conduct after punches were thrown" during a match between Man City and Birmingham City women's teams. The FA said the 30-year-old was charged after the goalmouth altercation was "missed by match officials but caught on camera" (REUTERS, 3/31).
