La Liga Clubs Propose Internal Agreement As Alternative To Plan For Real Decreto

At a meeting of Spanish Football League (LFP) clubs on Tuesday, Espanyol, Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla, among others, "proposed a plan B to the Real Decreto, the possibility of signing an internal contract among La Liga clubs with a broadcaster," according to Matilla & Jiménez of AS. Such a deal "would be for a duration of three years." Atlético VP Clemente Villaverde opposed the idea. Javier López Farré of Real Madrid's legal department "said that this would not be legally viable." Those who proposed the idea, however, "insisted it would have legitimacy." What the clubs want "is money that will not be guaranteed starting in the '16-17 season" (AS, 3/31).
