Ernst & Young Says Offers Made For Championship League Side Birmingham City

Five offers "have been made" for League Championship side Birmingham City or its parent company Birmingham Int'l Holdings Ltd., according to Brendan McLoughlin of the LONDON TIMES. Ernst & Young "made the announcement in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange" on Tuesday, yet insisted that "no formal agreement" had been entered with any of the interested parties, whose identity is unknown. A statement said, "The receivers are currently exploring all strategic options, including a number of offers from parties expressing an interest in the company and/or Birmingham City PLC. Up to March 30 2015, the receivers have received five indicative non-binding offers from independent third parties in relation to possible acquisition." BIHL had voluntarily entered into receivership in what the club called a "necessary" yet "unusual course of action," with the move aimed at putting an end to a "bitter boardroom battle" for control (LONDON TIMES, 3/31). The BBC reported the Football League has already said that "it is happy that enough funds are available to allow the Blues to complete the current Championship season." It has received assurances that Birmingham City, 15th in the table and 12 points clear of relegation trouble, "are in no financial danger" (BBC, 3/31).
