National Rugby League Seeks Explanation From Manly Over Potholes At Brookvale Oval

The National Rugby League has issued Manly with a "please explain" over the state of Brookvale Oval and warned the club that it expects "any problems with the surface to be rectified before the Sea Eagles' next home game in May," according to Honeysett & Read of THE AUSTRALIAN. NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg is "expected to meet" Manly CEO Joe Kelly and a representative from Warringah Council next week to "learn how Brookvale Oval has transformed from a suburban ground into a sandpit within a week." Greenberg: "We have written to the Manly club today reiterating that the quality of the surface at Brookvale Oval on Friday night was substandard." The NRL is "keen to know how the ground could deteriorate so badly within six days -- Bulldogs fullback Brett Morris said it was full of potholes -- and why they were not informed about the situation." Manly is attempting to raise funds for an upgrade of the venue but its cause is "being hindered to some extent by the fact the ground is open to the public" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 3/24).
