German Side KFC Uerdingen Secures Investment From Russian Businessman

German fourth division football club KFC Uerdingen "is hoping to return to past glory with the help of a Russian investor," according to the SID. Mikhail Ponomarev, who already supports various other clubs across different sports, has become second chairman of the club. With the help of pharmaceutical company Bayer, the club played 14 years in the Bundesliga and won the DFB Pokal (German Cup) in '85. Club Chair Agissilaos Kourkoudialos: "I'm happy to now have somebody on my side who shares the same visions and goals." The 40-year-old, who led Russian hockey club Metallurg Magnitogorsk to a Champions Hockey League final in '08, then saved German Hockey League (DEL) side Dusseldorf EG from administration, and now has the chance to play in the EPL as a shareholder of FC Bournemouth, works as managing director for a leading auditing company (SID, 3/18).
