Franchise Notes: Serie A Side Parma On Verge Of Bankruptcy

Serie A side Parma "is on the verge of bankruptcy and a tribunal hearing is set for March 19, though current President Giampietro Manenti continues to insist the money will arrive." Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Carlo Tavecchio said, "It is true, an important legal firm in Rome contacted me with this hypothesis of an American group. I cannot quantify the American proposal, but I can say the Federal debts alone are €50 million ($53.4M)" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 3/9). ... Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund started a "no beer for racists" campaign, with the club's fan department supplying local pubs with a total of 1 million beermats to be used throughout the city of Dortmund. The Ruhr city "has one of the biggest right-wing political scenes in Germany." On Tuesday, the club's fan department kicked off the "No Beer For Racists" campaign, with a statement on the official homepage reading, "Borussia, beer -- and Nazis? It does not fit!" (ESPN, 3/10).
