Brasileiro Side São Paulo Promises To Settle Debts To Players

Brasileiro side São Paulo confirmed Tuesday that it would pay outstanding debts of image rights and qualifying bonuses for the 2015 Copa Libertadores, according to Guilherme Palenzuela of UOL. The payment delays were announced as "a thing of the past." São Paulo financial & administrative VP Osvaldo Vieira de Abreu said, "It is absolutely certain that we will pay today." São Paulo owes players "in certain cases" three months' worth of image rights. The club had a "strong recession period" in Sept. '14, resulting in "employee layoffs and delayed image right payments." The club's management straightened outstanding debts "shortly after" and are now confirming that "they will pay all debts" once again. Aside from image rights and bonuses, the club's "salaries are up-to-date" (UOL, 3/10).
