Football Notes: Ramsey Says Racism In Football Has Been 'Parked, Not Eliminated'

EPL side Queens Park Rangers Manager Chris Ramsey believes that "events in Paris last week and north London on Sunday demonstrate that racism remains an acute problem in football, adding that there is a long way to go before it is eliminated." Ramsey: "Racism in football has been parked, not eliminated. ... I haven’t heard as much racist chanting as when I first came into the game [in '78]. The only thing we can actually do is increase awareness. But it is not just a football problem. It is a social problem" (London GUARDIAN, 2/24). ... League Championship side Cardiff City officials "will refuse to take seats in the Wigan Athletic directors' box on Tuesday evening in protest at the home club's employment of Malky Mackay as manager." Cardiff CEO Ken Choo and other officials from the Welsh club "will instead sit with the away supporters in a break from footballing protocol." Club Owner Vincent Tan "is still furious with Mackay over the Scot's spell as Cardiff manager, which ended in December 2013" (London TELEGRAPH, 2/24).
