The Vancouver tournament will expand the series to 10 tournaments, “though the world governing body is expected to announce a rejigging of the venues next month” after it asked last year for expressions of interest to host a tournament. Twenty-seven years after its last appearance, a "resurgent" New Zealand has "lobbied for a return to one of the game's most revered stages" -- the Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- but despite the renewed rivalry generated between the World Cup co-hosts it "will miss out on the sought-after booking again for at least the next eight years." The Kiwis "are desperate for another chance to appear on the showpiece occasion but with the soon-to-be-announced Future Tours Program from 2015 to 2023 all but finalised they are set to be overlooked again." New Zealand Cricket CEO David White: "I think every New Zealand cricketer dreams of playing in the Boxing Day test match. We haven't played in it for many, many years and I'm not sure that's going to happen in the near future -- it's not going to happen this year. But it's something that we're pushing and something that our cricketers would dream of playing" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 2/24). ... Australian Football League side Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron thinks the AFL should make the Giants' Anzac Day game and preseason clash with the Sydney Swans "permanent fixtures to help grow the game in the nation's capital." The Giants are entering the fourth year of their A$23M ($18M), 10-year deal with the ACT government to play four games at Manuka every season and Cameron thinks it is a "no-brainer to make bring the Swans to Canberra every year" (CANBERRA TIMES, 2/24).
