Event Notes: Rio Open Organizers To Make Schedule Changes Following Nadal's Rant

Rafael Nadal's rant at playing tennis into the "early hours of the morning" at the Rio Open has hit the mark: organizers are "promising it won't happen again." It was 3:18am when the Spaniard won on Saturday morning in Brazil. Nadal was back on court "later the same day, losing to Fabio Fognini." IMG Head of Tennis Fernando Soler said, "Moving forward we will look at how we schedule matches to make sure this doesn’t happen again" (BLOOMBERG, 2/23). ... Vintage F1 cars will race this fall as part of the 2015 U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. Track officials said Friday that "as many as 38 vintage F1 cars from the Masters Historic Formula One series will take to the track." The event will be a support race during U.S. Grand Prix weekend, scheduled for Oct. 23-25 (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 2/20). ... Brazilian police detained more than 100 football fans ahead of a "high-profile match in the Rio de Janeiro state championship on Sunday." Authorities said that supporters of Brasileiro clubs Fluminense and Vasco da Gama were "taken into custody after fighting outside the Engenhao stadium" (ESPN, 2/23).
