South Australia Sports Minister Says Upgrades Could Make Tailem Bend 'Mecca For Motorsport'

South Australia Sports Minister Leon Bignell said that Tailem Bend would become a national "mecca for motorsport" under "ambitious plans to upgrade the facility to include a V8 Supercars-standard circuit," according to Scott Walsh of THE ADVERTISER. There is "growing interest in plans lodged by the Peregrine Corporation for a permanent, purpose-built facility at Tailem Bend that could stage a second SA-based V8 Supercar event, reportedly as early as next year." Bignell said the State Government "supported the push by the Shahin family." Bignell: "The government is working with them, the (South Australian) Motorsport Board is working with them, CAMS is working with them -- everyone wants this to happen. One thing I know about Sam Shahin, if he puts his mind to something it’s definitely going to happen" (THE ADVERTISER, 2/17).
