Brasileiro club Corinthians has hired MARCELO PASSOSS as its new marketing director. The 42-year-old "joins the Sao Paulo-based club from the DM9 advertising agency," where he was VP. He replaces IZAEL SIMON JR. at Corinthians and "will be initially tasked with securing the renewal of the club's major sponsorship deal with Caixa bank" (SOCCEREX, 2/16). ... Polish football club Lech Poznan has hired SEBASTIAN STARCZEWSKI as its new marketing director. Starczewski is new to football, but "has worked across a number of major brands and marketing projects in Poland" (SOCCEREX, 2/16). ... GEIR THORSTEINSSON has been re-elected as FA of Iceland (KSI) president for a fifth two-year term (UEFA). ... London-based agency The Sports Consultancy has appointed MARC HOPE to spearhead its rights marketing business. Hope spent the last four years with Sports Marketing and Management. He will be working closely with co-Founders ANGUS BUCHANAN and ROBERT DATNOW in developing the rights marketing practice with further appointments of senior brand consultants and rights sales specialists (The Sports Consultancy). ... Liga MX side Monterrey has parted ways with Manager CARLOS BARRA and his staff. Barra has been in charge at Monterrey for a little more than a year. A replacement or interim coach has not been named (ESPN, 2/16).
