Liga MX Clubs Pachuca, León Have Seen Their Value Drop Due To TV Deals, Analysts Say

Consulting firm Competitive Intelligence Unit analysts Fernando Esquivel and Rolando Alanilla said that "the decrease in the value of Carlos Slim's shares in Liga MX clubs Pachuca and León is largely due to those teams lacking contracts putting their home games on free-TV channels," according to Susana Mendieta of LA AFICION. The clubs are "not worth as much" as they were in '12 "mostly because few people see them." Esquivel: "What happened is that they bet on pay-TV, Pachuca and León are the only teams only available on pay-TV. Though they are successful, they don't have as many fans, so they don't generate as much revenue." He added that both clubs play in states "where pay-TV's penetration is not very high, so games reach only about 10 percent of homes" (LA AFICION, 2/13).
