Media Notes: O2 Czech Republic Secures UEFA Champions League Rights

O2 Czech Republic "has secured the UEFA Champions League broadcast rights in the country, starting this September." O2 "will air 130 matches from the tournament in each of the next three seasons on a new sports channel, which will be part of its growing O2 TV offering." O2 Czech Republic is owned by Czech financial group PPF (SOCCEREX, 2/4). ... India's Cricket World Cup 2015 broadcaster Star Sports "is leaving no territory uncovered." The sports venture of Star India in association with Lowe Lintas + Partners "has already unveiled a youth-centric campaign titled, #wontgiveitback, for the upcoming tourney." Soon after that the broadcaster "roped in Amitabh Bachchan" as commentator. Bachchan will make his commentary debut during the India-Pakistan match on Feb. 15. Sources said, "Amitabh Bachchan’s inclusion in the commentary panel is a joint promotional activity between the upcoming movie Shamitabh and Star" (INDIAN TELEVISION, 2/4). ... Juventus has announced BTD Group will manage the club’s technical and development operations across their digital platforms. The deal will see BTD, a software and solutions company, completely restructure the Juventus website, as well as being given responsibility for "digital memberships" and the club's mobile apps (SOCCEREX, 2/4). ... La Liga side Athletic Bilbao has signed a new TV agreement with Mediapro for next season that "significantly improves the conditions that had been in place." Athletic President Josu Urrutia said that the contract "had already been signed months ago," but was not made public until now because Mediapro had established a confidentiality clause (EFE, 2/4). ... Spanish public broadcaster TVE has acquired the rights for live coverage of the next two editions of the Giro d'Italia. The race will also be available online at rtve.es and on RNE. The new deal also includes races in Italy, Belgium and Switzerland (AS, 2/4).
