Australian Open Kyrgios Vs. Murray Quarterfinal Match Attracts 3.5M Viewers On Seven

Despite the major interest in the Socceroos' Asian Cup semifinal against the UAE on Tuesday night, Nick Kyrgios' quarterfinal against Andy Murray "was a ratings hit," according to Michael Chammas of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Channel Seven's coverage of the match on Rod Laver Arena "averaged 2.5 million combined metro and regional viewers with a peak audience of 3.5 million, making it the most watched match of the Australian Open." It was also "the highest rating program of the summer" (SMH, 1/28).

IN GERMANY: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Nunez Sanchez reported pan-European broadcaster Eurosport "attracted 20,000 viewers to its broadcast of the Australian Open on Wednesday." The coverage of the quarterfinal matchups had a market share of 0.8%. In the target demographic, Eurosport's broadcasts, which started in the early morning hours, had a 0.4% share as 10,000 viewers tuned in. The viewing numbers increased to 80,000 starting at 9:25am. The market share rose to 1.2%. In the target demo, the tennis coverage was watched by 20,000 viewers and had a 0.8% share (QUOTENMETER, 1/28).
