DFL CEO Christian Seifert Cautions Bundesliga To Beware Of Int'l Competiton

German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert "has cautioned the Bundesliga to beware of int'l competition and not to be pretentious after Germany's World Cup victory," according to the DPA. Seifert: "In the medium to longterm, there will only be two, a maximum of three big football leagues that are followed by fans around the world. Either we are part of those two, three big leagues -- or it will be another league." Seifert emphasized the importance of int'l marketing and that it will be incorporated in the upcoming TV rights tender process, which will take effect in '17. Seifert said that the league's future partners "have to support and believe in the goal of being part of the world's top leagues" (DPA, 1/27).
