Barcelona's GERARD PIQUE has been ordered to pay almost £2M ($3M) in unpaid tax by the Spanish Treasury. The claim relates to a period of time spread between '07 and '10 -- despite the fact that Pique "only moved to Spain" from ManU in '08. The Barcelona defender, 27, "claims the judgement is a mistake and will take the case to court." This case is "just the latest in a long line of investigations as the Spanish government attempts to sniff out tax evading footballers" (London DAILY MIRROR, 1/26). ... European Union of Gymnastics President and French Gymnastics Federation VP GEORGES GUELZEC has officially declared his candidacy for the Int'l Gymnastics Federation (FIG) presidency. Guelzec, 67, was a member of the French men's gymnastics team at the 1972 Munich Olympics, and became a coach and director of the "La Nantaise" club in his native Nantes after retiring from competition. He is the first French candidate to be put forward for the FIG presidency since World War II (FIG). ... Australian golfer ROBERT ALLENBY ran up a $3,400 bar tab at a Honolulu strip club "the night he claims he was bashed, robbed and abducted." Honolulu detectives "continue to investigate what happened to Allenby on the evening of January 16" (AAP, 1/26).

CONCA TO CSL: Brasileiro side Fluminense's DARIO CONCA will play in the Chinese Super League after the Brazilian club accepted a proposal from Shanghai SIPG for the midfielder. The Argentine player will receive 56M reais ($21.6M) for a two-year contract with Shanghai SIPG, which just signed former England team coach SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON. Although the final contract has not been signed between the two sides, "Brazilian media believed that there is no hurdle in Conca's transfer after Fluminense accepted the proposal." Investment group Unimed, which "owns the economic rights of Conca," has already authorized the transfer (IANS, 1/26).

RIQUELME RETIRES: Argentine footballer JUAN ROMÁN RIQUELME has "hung up his boots" after 18 years. Riquelme was a five-time league champion with Argentine first division side Boca Juniors.
