Swiss Ice Hockey has appointed RAETO RAFFAINER "to the newly created position of national teams director." The former professional hockey player "will start his new position on Feb. 1" (NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG, 1/21). ... The FA has promoted DAN ASHWORTH "to technical director." Ashworth has been the FA's director of elite development -- his title since arriving from West Bromwich. The FA "did not feel it necessary to promote the change of title as Ashworth has effectively been carrying out the technical director brief since the World Cup" (London DAILY MAIL, 1/20). ... Football Conference side Aldershot Town "has relieved" Manager ANDY SCOTT and his assistant TERRY BULLIVANT "of first-team duties." The club said the decision had been taken "to safeguard the team's immediate prospects." Aldershot captain CHRIS BARKER "will take caretaker charge until a new manager is appointed" (BBC, 1/21). ... National Rugby League side South Sydney CEO SHANE RICHARDSON was appointed to the NRL's newly-created position of Head of Game Strategy & Development, ending a "roller-coaster 11 years at South Sydney." In what ranks as one of NRL CEO DAVE SMITH's "most astute appointments, Richardson will begin his new role at head office on March 2" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 1/22). ... South Sydney has landed "another forward-thinking CEO" in the form of JOHN LEE. In Lee, "not only have the Rabbitohs landed a new CEO with a fair tinge of red and green DNA but also a passionate rugby league person with a variety of experience at all levels of the game." He was most recently CEO of the Casinos and Resorts Australasia, was the CEO of Sydney Buses and worked with the NSW Department of Commerce and the Tourism and Transport Forum (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 1/22).
