Scottish Championship Side Rangers Fans Admit Defeat In Move Against Ashley

Scottish Championship side Rangers fans on Saturday night "admitted defeat in their legal bid" to stop shareholder Mike Ashley from snaring Ibrox, according to Scott McDermott of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Rangers Supporters Trust is "furious at the tycoon's proposal to have the stadium and Murray Park put up as security" against a £10M ($15M) emergency loan. They had "hoped to take Ashley to court over the move." But after taking legal advice, "they've conceded any action would be in vain." And last night, the RST "slated the Ibrox board and accused them of misleading fans with carefully worded statements about the potential security of Ibrox" (DAILY RECORD, 1/18). CHRONICLE LIVE reported the Union of Fans organized a "mass demonstration" before Rangers' home game against Heart of Midlothian on Friday night to protest against the move. Supporters "braved the snow to sport placards and sang 'Sack the Board' at the main doors to the stadium before kick off" (CHRONICLE LIVE, 1/17).
