Football Notes: Oldham Has No Regrets Pursuing Convicted Rapist Ched Evans

League One side Oldham Dir Barry Owen "has insisted he has no regrets over the club's aborted attempt to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans." CEO Neil Joy said that "the move collapsed following 'vile and abusive threats, including death threats' to fans, sponsors and staff while also claiming 'proceeding could have placed significant financial pressure on the club and continued to be a divisive influence.'" Evans: "'I will never regret it. I am hugely disappointed for many reasons that I can't discuss" (PA, 1/11). ... Queens Park Rangers "were confronted by angry supporters" that saw them lose a record 10th Premier League game in a row. As QPR defender Richard Dunne trudged off, "he was met by a handful of visiting fans who had darted across an empty terrace." Dunne's teammate Clint Hill "joined the remonstrations before Joey Barton and Glenn Hoddle became involved, attempting to defuse the situation" (London TELEGRAPH, 1/10).
