The KNVB and the KBVB, the Dutch and Belgian FA's, respectively, "will redesign their professional women's league after a joint-decision to end the BeNe League due to insufficient financial resources in the Netherlands," according to Samindra Kunti of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL.
The BeNe League "was an initiative of the Belgian and Dutch FA's to improve the quality of women's football in both countries." The idea of a joint-league was first proposed in '11. The BeNe Super Cup, pitting the Belgian and Dutch champions against each other, "was established as a try-out later that year." The '14-15 season "will be the BeNe League's last." The decision comes after the Dutch clubs and the KNVB "failed to come to an agreement regarding the clubs' financial participation for the following seasons." The Dutch FA "wants a domestic league with eight clubs" for the '15-16 season. The KBVB "is also aiming to found a new domestic league." The results of the Belgian Red Flames, the Belgium women's national team, "have improved in the last three years and have been a boost to women's football in Belgium" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 1/2).
