Premier League Side West Ham Aims To Cut Debt By Selling Share Of Club

EPL side West Ham co-Owner David Sullivan said that the club is trying to raise £80M ($128M) to clear some of its debt "by selling 20 percent of the club," according to Ed Osmond of REUTERS. Sullivan said that West Ham would be worth £400M ($622M) when it moves to London's Olympic Stadium in '16. Sullivan said, "We've no desire to give up the whole club but we're still 110 million pounds in debt -- albeit now 55 million pounds of that is to ourselves." Sullivan bought West Ham with co-Chair David Gold in '10 "when the club was valued" at £105M. Sullivan said, "We lost 30 million when we went down (to the Championship in 2011) and we made 10 million on paper last year. I'd love someone to come in and pay 20 percent and the money would not go to us, it would go to the club" (REUTERS, 12/28). The BBC reported West Ham "will be anchor tenants for the Olympic Stadium from August 2016." Sullivan: "Going to the Olympic Stadium, we are a £400 million club and that would pay down most of the debt. But if it doesn't happen we'll dig deep in our pockets and keep the club afloat" (BBC, 12/28).
