Event Notes: French Open Unveils Poster Designed By Chinese Artist

The French Open tennis tournament has unveiled a poster "designed by a Chinese artist for next year's event, aiming to maintain its strong appeal to the Chinese market following Li Na's retirement." Without Li, who triggered "huge Chinese interest after winning the Grand Slam event" in '11, a French tennis official said that the Paris tournament will "continue engaging Chinese fans with the launch of its 2015 poster." It will be the "first time in 35 years that a Chinese artist has been commissioned for the tournament" (CHINA DAILY, 12/19). ... European Professional Club Rugby announced details of an expanded qualifying competition for the '15-16 European Rugby Challenge Cup which will get underway in January. Qualifying will include clubs from Russia, Spain and Portugal alongside representatives from the Italian Eccellenza. The enlarged competition format will now see six clubs competing in two pools of three over three rounds of matches. The competition is being organized and managed by Rugby Europe in conjunction with EPCR and the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) (EPCR).
