Rail Infrastructure Firm QTS Group To Sponsor Scottish League Cup

Rail infrastructure group QTS Group has been announced as a sponsor for the latter stages of the Scottish League Cup, according to Danny Law of the Aberdeen PRESS AND JOURNAL. QTS Group will sponsor the League Cup semifinals between Dundee United and Aberdeen and Celtic and Rangers "as well as the final, which will take place at Hampden Park on March 15." The deal is reported to be worth "in the region" of £100,000 ($156,300) (PRESS AND JOURNAL, 12/19). In Glasgow, Gregor Kyle reported the Scottish Professional Football League has "come under fire for its failure to find a sponsor for the competition -- which includes the first Glasgow derby match in three years." The "newly branded Scottish Premiership and lower divisions are also without a sponsor," however, SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster said that they are "in talks with a number of companies over deals." Doncaster: "We have been in the market for a presenting partner for the Scottish League Cup and interest was high" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 12/19). The BBC reported Doncaster described QTS Group as a "perfect fit" for the competition as it was "an ambitious and growing Scottish business with a proud history of successful sport sponsorship." Strathaven-based QTS, which is involved in "maintenance of the rail network, already backs Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock." The competition will now be called "The Scottish League Cup presented by QTS" (BBC, 12/19).
