Executive Transactions

Former Ferrari Chair LUCA DI MONTEZEMOLO "is returning to the board of Formula One as a non-executive director" along with former Diageo CEO PAUL WALSH. F1 CEO BERNIE ECCLESTONE "has also rejoined the board, after standing down during a now-resolved bribery trial in Germany, and will continue as chief executive." CVC said Nestle Chair PETER BRABECK-LETMATHE, "who has been unwell, will continue to serve as chairman of the board" (REUTERS, 12/18). ... Women "will be represented on the European Tour’s board for the first time" after SOPHIE GOLDSCHMIDT and JUTTA AF ROSENBORG were named on Wednesday as non-exec directors. The appointments highlight the Tour’s move toward a “more commercial approach to business, but they are also notable” on gender grounds. Goldschmidt and Rosenborg will take up their posts in January. Goldschmidt is regarded as a specialist in the global sports industry, having held senior posts at Adidas, the Women’s Tennis Association Tour and the NBA and is currently the chief commercial marketing officer for the Rugby Football Union. Rosenborg is a “financial expert given her experience” with Aberdeen Asset Management and Carnegie Worldwide (London GUARDIAN, 12/17). ... Coliseum Sports Media CEO TIM MARTIN will become managing director of Lightbox Sport following the merger between CSM and Lightbox. Martin said that CSM New Zealand "will cease to exist as a standalone company," although its int'l operation will continue (NATIONAL BUSINESS REVIEW, 12/18).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Liga MX side Club América confirmed GUSTAVO MATOSAS as its new coach on Wednesday. Matosas, 47, is joining the club on a two-year deal and "his first match in charge will be against Leon on Jan. 10." He replaces outgoing ANTONIO MOHAMED, who had a "rocky relationship with the club's hierarchy and whose contract wasn't renewed at the end of the season, despite bringing home the historic 12th title" (GOAL, 12/17). ... Chinese Super League side Guangzhou has “secured the services” of La Liga side Getafe's COSMIN CONTRA as its new coach. Romanian Contra, 39, and other coaching staff “will arrive in Guangzhou soon to complete the deal.” Financially-troubled Getafe had “urged Contra to accept Guangzhou's offer and help the La Liga club to raise funds” (REUTERS, 12/18).
