Argentine Government To Contribute $28.5M Toward Cost Of Hosting Dakar Rally

For next year's Dakar Rally, part of which will take place in Argentina, the country's federal government "has decided that the competition will be a spending priority during the remainder of '14," according to ELIMINANDO VARIABLES. Instead of facilitating "private businesses covering the majority of the cost by selling advertising," the Argentine government decided to spend $28.5M to finance the costly race. Event organizer ASO, which also organizes the Tour de France, among other events, "operates in Argentina through a company" called Organization Dakar SA (ODASA). The Argentine government will spend the $28.5M with the intention of "financing Argentina's participation in and organization of one the world's biggest racing events." The sum comes from Argentina's National Institute Of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR) (ELIMINANDO VARIABLES, 12/17).
