Tommy Hilfiger Teams Up With Rafael Nadal As Global Brand Ambassador

The Tommy Hilfiger Group announced that Rafael Nadal will appear as the global brand ambassador for the Tommy Hilfiger underwear and Tommy Hilfiger Tailored collections beginning in fall '15. The campaign imagery will be photographed in early '15 in Spain and it will break globally in fall '15 with dedicated print, online, and out-of-home media placements worldwide. To further support the global initiative and collaboration, Nadal will attend exclusive Tommy Hilfiger launch events in North America, Europe and Asia (Tommy Hilfiger). WOMEN'S WEAR DAILY's Lisa Lockwood reported "this is the second underwear modeling gig for Nadal for a major fashion brand." In '11, he appeared with Megan Fox "in steamy ads for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans." Industry sources estimate Nadal’s two-year Hilfiger deal could be worth $3M-$4M. Hilfiger officials declined comment. Asked whether Nadal will have an input into the collection’s design, Hilfiger said, "He’ll tell us what he likes and doesn’t like. He’s talking to us about what kind of fit he likes and the fabric." Hilfiger Chief Marketing & Brand Officer Avery Baker called the appointment "a pretty significant move for us." The brand has not done "a singular category-focused campaign on a global scale in a long time" (WWD, 12/17).
