Dresden City Council Decides To Increase Subsidy Toward Dynamo's Stadium Rent

German 3rd League football club Dynamo Dresden and the city "have found a solution regarding the city's subsidy toward the club's stadium rent," according to the MDR. The city council decided "to increase its subsidy toward stadium rent" to €1.5M ($1.9M) annually. The increase represents a reliable foundation for the club "to receive a license for next season." In addition, the subsidy increase, which will run through '19, "will help the club to make a positive development over the next several years." The club currently pays around €5M ($6.2M) annually "to play in the arena, which was renovated in '09." The city currently contributes €1.3M ($1.6M) toward stadium rent. The biggest problem for the club, which was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga last season, "is the drastically reduced income from TV rights in the 3rd League" (MDR, 12/17).
