League Championship Side Nottingham Forest Wins $393,200 Transfer Pot Despite Embargo

League Championship side Nottingham Forest has won a £250,000 ($393,200) January transfer pot "following a competition run via Sky Bet, despite being hit with an embargo for the winter window," according to James Riach of the London GUARDIAN. Forest, one of three Championship clubs which has "been banned from signing players in January after breaching the Football League's financial fair play rules," was picked "at random from a shortlist of nine teams to win the prize at Wembley on Tuesday." However, the club will "not be allowed to use the money on transfer fees or loan fees" after recording losses of more than £8M ($12.6M) during the '13-14 season (GUARDIAN, 12/16). SKY SPORTS reported Football League CEO Shaun Harvey said, "Nottingham Forest will be very worthy winners and can use the money for loan fees or loan-players' wages, but not for transfer fees." Former Scotland striker John O'Hare, a two-time European Cup winner with Forest, represented the Midlands club and picked up the award. O'Hare: "Unfortunately there's only one winner and we're delighted to come out of the hat" (SKY SPORTS, 12/16).
