Royal Trophy Golf Team Event's Organizers Postpone Tournament Days Before Tee-Off

The organizers of the Royal Trophy golf team event, "which pits Europe against Asia," said that it has been postponed, just days ahead of the scheduled tee-off in Guangzhou, according to the SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST. The announcement comes amid a "long-standing battle for control of Asian golf between the Asian Tour and OneAsia, which supports the Royal Trophy." Played in a "similar matchplay format to the Ryder Cup, the Royal Trophy was founded by the late Seve Ballesteros, whose vision was to bring together the continents of Europe and Asia in a team matchplay contest." The eighth edition of the tournament was "originally scheduled to be played at China's Dragon Lake Golf Club in Guangzhou from Friday to Sunday." Organizers said, "We have postponed the Royal Trophy and we have no more information." The venue also said it had "no plans to stage the event" (SCMP, 12/16).
